We wouldn't be fighting off the Invaders with our popguns, true.
But armed citizens are much harder to control than unarmed citizens. And if we were ever invaded, by anyone, I want to have guns available. Just in case a bunch of soldiers decide to spend their time looting or having their fun with the citizens on their off time.
What we saw from Ukrane is plenty of murder and assault of citizens in Russian invaded areas. I means, stuff like that has been going on, likely in every war since the beginning of time. I want to make sure I have guns in case that situation is ours.
Fighting off an army isn't likely but shooting a drunk soldier or two that wants to hurt your wife or daughter or son is a real threat. You'll likely have to flee after that, bit it's better than the alternative of just standing there and doing nothing.

This is why I firmly believe that the U.N. is practically enabling genocide with their 2030 mandate. Hell Russia only had the balls to even think about invading Ukraine after they voluntarily gave up their nuclear weapons.
There will still be arms. There will still be arms production. There will still be corrupt ranking forces members or even arms producers themselves looking to make an extra dime. There will still be nefarious types seeking out those arms for their own ill-intentions.

What I've always seen it as is this.
