I imagine many neighbours of Ancient Rome had people just like you walking around. “The Romans? The bloodthirsty, world conquering, war-as-culture menace? No, they won’t invade us, we have trade relations with them, we’re the lucky ones!”
When an empire runs out of people to conquer, it looks inward and collapses. It very well may come to it that America invades us merely to stave off civil strife. We are not immune to the gaze of the American war machine, and history shows us that we are in extreme peril.
Bud, here’s the facts:
1) The majority of the American public wouldn’t care, and a large part would be happy for it.
2) Europe would care, but has no non-nuclear response capability, so they would eventually accept it.
3) 1/3 of Canada would be happy to be Americans, 1/3 would be indifferent, and 1/3 would be outraged and resist to various degrees, with most eventually choosing to accept it rather than risk their own lives/their family lives. A small percentage would engage in a long, painful, but ultimately fruitless resistance, and the world would remember that spunky little country called Canada that was around for a little while at some point but eventually became apart of the Greater American Empire.
Read some more history if you want more examples, this has happened literally thousands of times to various degrees. Respond with some actual rebuttal or accept that you are just in denial of the fact that the President himself has threatened us with a takeover and the American public didn’t care. Trump won’t be the one to do it, he’s too ineffective and unsubtle, but someone with better charisma, brains and timing can and will pull it off.
This happened thousands of times? Canadas been “threatened with invasion” multiple times? Now it’s suddenly “trump wont but someone else will”. The American military would by and large reject the order to move on us.
Larger nations have assimilated overtime and eventually invaded/integrated neighbouring nations thousands of times in history, yes. I trust you’ve read a bit of history? The Romans alone did it thousands of times to countless now forgotten cultures, tribes, etc.
Every time Trump mentions Canada being the 51st state it’s a threat. Just as if I went to my neighbour and claimed his shed was my shed, that would be a threat, yes. Do you think if Russia started claiming parts of Alaska were actually Russian now that America would respond with some show of force? They would, because claims of ownership over another’s sovereign territory is a blatant threat. I’m sorry you have trouble understanding that, but I guess we disagree on that one.
It’s unlikely at this point that Trump will be the one to do it, as he cast his net too wide and squandered most of his political capital at this point by trying to do too much at once. If he had zeroed in on Canada from the start of his term, he could have likely pulled something off. As it is now, it will have to be a future president to pull it off, if he tried now he would likely fail due to waning public support and his many failures (on top of his own general incompetence and inability to commit/follow through).
The American military has willingly followed orders to do untold numbers of atrocities across the world and to its own people. A few would dissent but the rest would fall in line and follow orders as they’ve been trained to do. You are a fool if you think the thing that would stop an American military invasion is the American military finally standing up to leadership. It rarely happens and when it does it is quashed.
Pearl harbour led to them nuking Japan. 9/11 led to millions dead in the Middle East. The right leader, with the right spark, at the right time, and they will invade and people like you will be there and probably be convinced they are justified.
