Owning guns- Right or Privilege?

So obviously here in Canada our government sees private firearm ownership as a privilege rather than a right. My question is, how you guys feel? Do you think gun ownership is a right or a privilege?

When you look at other things people view as rights, such as abortion, freedom of expression and freedom of religion etc. These are all viewed by most as inherently “good rights”, but in many countries these rights are restricted. I think, along with many others, that it is justified to ignore unjust laws that restrict human rights.

I personally believe that firearm ownership is a fundamental human right because it protects all of our other rights and freedoms from being taken away. So even though legally speaking firearm ownership is a privilege that can be taken away at any time here in Canada, I don’t agree with the way our country and many others treat firearm ownership.

Women were not considered "persons" in Canada until 1929. Not all old laws are right or just.

There are lots of people in this country that have no business owning firearms.

People with violent criminal convictions, confirmed members of organized crime groups.

You want these people having access to legal firearms?

I'm not sure you know what you are arguing. You started by saying we should have an absolute right to own firearms, then said we need more rights and then shifted to better enforcement of existing laws not new ones.

I find a lot of gun right hardliners don’t actually understand what they’re arguing for. I’ve had some guy say that we shouldn’t have background checks for gun ownership, and I pointed out the same thing (violent crimes, etc), and they say “yeah they can’t have them”… so a background check?? How else does the government find out
