They would just grandfather. It’s still a win for them, our guns are banned and it costs them no money

Agreed I don't know why the gun community gets so happy about a grandfathering.

Ground lost is ground that will never be gained back. There should be no "negotiations" in this transaction where they propose an insane ban and then we agree to settle on a slightly less insane outcome. They'll just do it again and again.

This is so true, why the CCFR ever supported that was beyond me. Even worse, to my knowledge only a fraction of grandfathered firearms can even be shot still anyways, they’ll do the same thing for these in a few years.

Ehhh... In the context of an overzealous Liberal government, I think I'll take grandfathering/indefinite amnesty extension until the next Conservative government forms. It's much easier for the Conservatives to reverse a ban when everyone still has these guns in their possession. Quite different when they're all gone/ordered to be disposed by Oct. 2026.

Grandfathering would require amending the Firearms Act, so unless you want Nathalie Provost writing gun laws, an amnesty in perpetuity is a vastly better option.

This will never happen again. IF the conserative party ever forms a gov't again they will just be liberals in blue ties.

Demographic change. There will be no election until 2029, and by then the millions of “new-Canadians” let in by the LPC will have citizenship.

Youre an exception to the rule, you dont prove the rule wrong.

Moreover, for all of the good noises Pollievre is making, he won't do anything. He will be the Canadian equivalent of Boris Johnson.

In theory, grandfathering should still include monetary compensation for your estate when they seize the guns after your death. They are still seizing property. This is something that should be explored when it comes to handguns as well.
