Ps. If we win, can I have my B&T back?

Who knows? The liberals are pieces of shit, we could win and then they could just ban everything again in actual parliament with their majority

They could but the Supreme Court will rule whether we're entitled to full market value of our firearms as that's basically what they told the lower courts that they were going to do with everyone's banned gun. We know that's not true now, and on top of that leaked audio of the public safety minister saying the quiet part out loud that this has nothing to do with safety...

If at minimum they determined that we are entitled to full monetary compensation for our banned guns and rule against us in every other respect, the Liberals will still have a tough decision to make. Do they inject tens of billions of dollars more into the program, do they decide to implement grandfathering (like the C-71 proposed 12.9 class for prohibited rifles), or do they just scrap this whole fucking Gong Show all together?

They would just grandfather. It’s still a win for them, our guns are banned and it costs them no money

Agreed I don't know why the gun community gets so happy about a grandfathering.

Ground lost is ground that will never be gained back. There should be no "negotiations" in this transaction where they propose an insane ban and then we agree to settle on a slightly less insane outcome. They'll just do it again and again.

This is so true, why the CCFR ever supported that was beyond me. Even worse, to my knowledge only a fraction of grandfathered firearms can even be shot still anyways, they’ll do the same thing for these in a few years.

Ehhh... In the context of an overzealous Liberal government, I think I'll take grandfathering/indefinite amnesty extension until the next Conservative government forms. It's much easier for the Conservatives to reverse a ban when everyone still has these guns in their possession. Quite different when they're all gone/ordered to be disposed by Oct. 2026.

Grandfathering would require amending the Firearms Act, so unless you want Nathalie Provost writing gun laws, an amnesty in perpetuity is a vastly better option.

think I'll take grandfathering/indefinite amnesty extension until the next Conservative government forms.

This will never happen again. IF the conserative party ever forms a gov't again they will just be liberals in blue ties.

why?

Demographic change. There will be no election until 2029, and by then the millions of “new-Canadians” let in by the LPC will have citizenship.

i'm "new canadian" i owned 10 guns and i voted conservatives, so did my other "new canadian" friends

Youre an exception to the rule, you dont prove the rule wrong.

Moreover, for all of the good noises Pollievre is making, he won't do anything. He will be the Canadian equivalent of Boris Johnson.

In theory, grandfathering should still include monetary compensation for your estate when they seize the guns after your death. They are still seizing property. This is something that should be explored when it comes to handguns as well.

The Supreme Court is only going to rule on the legality of the OIC.

Whether or not we are entitled to compensation is a long-settled matter, and the reality is, we aren't.

Unless you’re in Saskatchewan

God bless them.

Though I wouldn't be surprised to see the liberals amend the act to remove that wording if they get a majority.

If it did go that route I’m assuming it’d be the normal Canadian way, grandfathering. Why deal with this buyback headache shit again?

37

u/Lumindan Mar 19 '26

Just to be clear, grandfathering is a huge trap and they'd never issue it with use.

24

u/OCTS-Toronto Mar 19 '26

Keep reminding people of this. Grandfathering sounds like a compromise but it won't be done in a reasonable way.

4

u/boozefiend3000 Mar 19 '26

I know, I’m just saying that’s the route they’d go to keep them banned

10

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Mar 19 '26

They will likely try to appeal, or ban through the appropriate legislative process. If the bans are null, the next step would be CPC and NDP to step up to block any reactionary bill in parliament

12

u/boozefiend3000 Mar 19 '26

Gonna be hard to do now that the liberals have their majority

5

u/NecessaryRisk2622 Mar 19 '26

Their majority, which is also something that should be addressed in court due to the undemocratic way in which they achieved it.

12

u/gamercast1337 Mar 19 '26

But they did pull 3 conservatives over, and since they would still represent the will of their districts they would vote with the CPC to shoot down any gun bans, right?

Right? They wouldnt lie to us about how their voting patterns would change, right?????

3

u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Mar 20 '26

Of course because we all know we vote for the individual and not the party. MPs are independently thinking and voting based on their constituents desires and reasons they were elected /s.

2

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Mar 19 '26

They don’t have one yet. Still need two seats AFAIK

1

u/boozefiend3000 Mar 19 '26

There’s 3 byelections in April. Two in liberal strongholds, he has his majority

14

u/sounoriginal13 Mar 19 '26

Kind of like the supreme court decision on emergency act orders being unlawful. Twice. And furthermore it was Carneys idea to enact it anyways.

1

u/BackToTheCottage Mar 21 '26

It's the LPC. It's kinda like Trump where rules just don't apply to them and they can do whatever they want.

5

u/sounoriginal13 Mar 19 '26

Back? Where did it go

10

u/weneedafuture Mar 19 '26

To the safe to collect dust. Not sure about you, but my firearms are for taking to the range...

5

u/MidwinterBlue Mar 19 '26

As with so many others, bottom of an uncharted lake.

3

u/weneedafuture Mar 19 '26

I want mine back too! Both of them even! I mean, if I have them...

2

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

If you already declared it, I hope not.

1

u/Empty-Presentation68 Mar 19 '26

Well they are lining up to have a majority...
